Organizational Structure of the Order of the Daughters of the King
Local Chapters
Organization begins at the local chapter level in a Diocese in a local church with at least three women who are communicants of the church. After completing twelve weeks of study and discernment, women who decide to become members of the Order, take life time vows to follow our Rule of Life - daily prayer, service and evangelism. Also, each member agrees to wear the Cross of the Order which is of the Greek fleury design inscribed with the Latin words "Magnanimeter Crucem Sustine" which reminds us that "with heart, mind, and spirit we uphold and bear the cross." We wear this cross just as a member of some religious orders wear a "habit". Chapters elect officers, President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer and write their own Constitution and Bylaws making sure they do not conflict with the national Bylaws.
Diocesan Assemblies
After three local chapters have been formed in the same Diocese, an Assembly may be formed. The Diocese elects officers, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers are responsible for writing and monitoring the Diocesan Constitution and Bylaws, organizing meetings and maintaining communication with the Diocesan Bishop or Clergy in charge.
Provincial Assemblies
Once a Province has three Diocesan Assemblies, a Provincial Assembly may be formed with Officers, President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and other officers as needed. They also have a constitution and Bylaws. In the Episcopal Church there are nine Provinces. Eight are assembled and the President of each Province serves on the National Council. The ninth Province includes Columbia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Litoral, and Honduras. Each Province holds an annual Assembly.

International Daughters From the International Chair, Pam Runyon:
Supporting our International Sisters—
Reflecting God’s Love throughout the World
What a joy to have the privilege of serving as International Chair on the National Council. It is for me a humbling but exciting opportunity to take part in the wonderful work the Order is doing around the world. At the moment there are over 2500 international Daughters of the King in 171 chapters in fifteen countries!
The Growth Continues
We have seen great answers to the prayer we pray daily for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom throughout the world.Earlier this year, new chapters were instituted in Haiti, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic.Just in the past month, since I was appointed international chair, we have received requests for charters for four Caribbean chapters, as well as a request for help in starting a chapter in India. Thanks be to God!
Supporting the Growth
As we have been faithful, God has given the increase. The prayers and generosity of Daughters in this country have planted chapters overseas, and now international Daughters are planting many more, especially in Africa and the Caribbean.Along with the excitement of witnessing the rapid growth overseas, comes the responsibility to support and sustain our international sisters.I am finding out how much has been done in the past by individual Daughters and chapters, as well as by Diocesan and Provincial Assemblies. And I am realizing that as we grow internationally, so do our opportunities to help.
The Needs
1.Prayer—Become a Prayer Partner. If your chapter has not yet partnered with an international chapter, do it now! Prayer is always the most important support needed.Contact me at the e-mail address below for more information.
2.Financial Support—In addition to praying, you may choose to help financially. Chapter Sponsors are needed to purchase international crosses for new chapters.Gifts to the international operating fund are also most welcome—to help translate materials and to bring international Daughters together.Contact me or the National Office if you, your chapter, or your Diocese can help.
3.Personal Support—Contact the National Office if you are traveling overseas—you may be able to visit, bring materials, or help start a new chapter!
Thank-You!
This is my first opportunity to thank all the angels among us who have supported and guided our international mission in the past.Thank-you to those who have started chapters and supported chapters, and to the many more who have planted seeds and soaked every effort in prayer. Thank-you to those who have made generous financial gifts, which have enabled the work to proceed. Most recently, your special gifts made it possible for twelve international Daughters to be with us at this summer’s Triennial. You blessed us greatly with their presence, and enriched all of us through new friendships.
Your gifts have enabled us to make international mission a priority--and rightly so.As we promote the Order, both domestically and overseas, women’s lives are transformed and the lives of those around them are transformed as well.It is my fervent prayer that we will be filled with all the fullness of God as we continue in this work we have vowed to do--to spread Christ’s Kingdom and share His redeeming love with the world.
Vision
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.p.1 The National Handbook
International Chapters may be formed in autonomous churches of the Anglican Communion or churches in communion with the Episcopal Church. A list of these churches may be found in the current edition of the Episcopal Church Annual. They may develop their own handbook and bylaws patterned after those of The Order of the Daughters of the King, Inc., and adapted to the discipline and forms of their own church. Annual membership dues and contributions to the Funds are not required but the chapter and/or its members are encouraged to subscribe to The Royal Cross. The National Office maintains a separate list of International Chapters.
International Chapters are required to submit an annual report to the National Office of the Order (including a list of the officers and members of the chapters) until a diocesan or national organization is formed in the church of the International Chapter; then annual reports will be submitted directly to the International Chapter's diocesan or national organization.
International Chapters are strongly encouraged to maintain a close relationship with The Order of the Daughters of the King, Inc., and to attend the Assemblies, the National meetings of the Order and to send representatives. They are welcome to participate in all activities and will have voice but no vote (Art. IV, Sec. 1, Para. D, Subpara. 5)
